It didn’t take Vince and I
too long to get to the restaurant and entered through the back entrance. As
soon as we entered, we put on little paper booties, latex gloves and a paper
hairnet to prevent contaminating the crime scene. I tell the staff to shut down
due to an air conditioning problem and to go out the front. My brother locked
up behind them and put signs on the doors stating that they’d be closed for the
day.
I head to the walk in
freezer to where the server was, supposedly having his wanker in his hand.
Well, the server was there but he was fully clothed and frozen solid.
I mapped the crime scene
in sketches and then photographed the area. I called my boss to let him know
what happened at the restaurant and that in my search the manner of death was
accidental since the server was found frozen in the walk in freezer and his
hand was on the handle to open the door but unsure of the cause; told him that
I thought it could’ve been an aneurysm but the autopsy would show it.
After I hung up, I spoke
with my brother and told him my findings. I mentioned that I’d pay for cleaning
of the walk in freezer AND fridge; as well as reimbursement for the last food and
supplies purchases in both walk ins plus replacements that he'd order.
“Dude, that’s well over $4,500,000!!
Are you sure that you want to do that?” my brother asked.
“Dear brother. It’s not
your fault that this guy died in your walk in freezer. You’ve helped me out
countless amounts of times and it’s my turn to take care of you. It’ll be more than
enough to cover everything plus losses for the next few days.” I said.
“You’re my kid sister. I
hate the fact that you’re taking care of me; it should be the other way around.
You’ve been lucky from doing your security jobs that made you become co heirs of
those same companies to having a job with the FD, the PD and with your new
company. We both know that you don’t have a brain for business but somehow you’re
making it all work. Because of you I have 4 restaurants!”
As we were talking, the
CSI team and my boss came to photograph everything and clean up. It took a
number of hours. In the early hours of the morning, the morgue was able to pick
the server up and take him back to perform the autopsy. We’d be getting the
results within 36 hours. Normally we’d have the toxicology reports in a week
but since we need to get my brother’s main restaurant back open……Hoping nothing
gets missed in the reports.
