“Amor, thank you for getting your stuff,” he said. “We need to end everything as I’m married and well, she walked in on us. You could’ve asked me to drop your stuff off but I had another reason to ask you to get your stuff.”
“Let me guess, Papí,” I said. “You want me to take a morning after pill?”
“Si, bebé,” he said. “I talked to the pharmacist about you taking it; he suggested that you take 2.”
“Yeah, I’m overweight,” I snidely said. “No need to tell me something that I don’t know. And yes, I know there’s a weight limit on one.”
“Bebé, you’re perfect the way you are,” he said. “It’s what made me fall in love with you.”
“Give me the pills,” I said. “I know you want to watch me take these.”
He handed me the packets and a glass of water. I popped the packets and took them, grabbed my stuff and headed towards the door, he called for me.
“Bebé?” he said. “Take a test in a few weeks just to make sure. If you’re pregnant, please…get an abortion.”
“Goodbye, Papí,” I said as I was heading out.
“Mi amor, please know that I love you,” he said.
I nodded my head and closed the door behind me. As I drove the 15ish minutes home, I was saddened that we had to end the relationship but at the same time, I was happy about it. I knew that we’d both love each other but right now, it it’s the best timing.
